What it is

Not a grind. A working week, in the holidays.

A Christmas revision course is four days of structured teaching in the middle of the break, aimed squarely at students sitting the Leaving or Junior Cert in June. The point is not to cover the whole syllabus in four days — nobody can — but to take the topics that carry the most marks and teach them properly, the way the examiner asks them.

Students book the subjects they want. Three classes run side by side in every slot from 9am to 6pm, so most students are in class for three or four blocks and in supervised study for the rest. Nobody is sent home at lunchtime and nobody drifts around the town between classes — the day has a shape from the moment they check in.

Every class is taught by an experienced teacher who teaches that subject for a living. Six of the Revise teachers were taught by Carl Lynch himself before they came back to teach with us. This is the only course of its kind running in both the south-east and the midlands, and it has run every Christmas since 2007.

Choosing

Kilkenny or Athlone?

Kilkenny — the Ormonde Hotel

The original course, running since 2007, in the middle of Kilkenny city. The widest subject choice of the two, including Ag Science, Construction, Home Economics, Accounting, French and Spanish. Best for students in Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford, Wexford, south Laois and south Tipperary. See the Kilkenny course →

Athlone — the TUS campus

Running since 2024 and now in its third year, on the TUS campus in Athlone. Same teachers, same four days, same standard. Best for students in Westmeath, Offaly, Roscommon, Longford, Galway east and the wider midlands. See the Athlone course →

Higher Maths

Maths A and Maths B are different classes.

This is the question we are asked most, so it is worth being plain about it. Higher Level Maths at the Christmas course runs as two separate courses covering completely different material — they are not the same class timetabled twice.

Maths A is Algebra. Factors and fractions, completing the square, quadratics, inequalities and absolute value, simultaneous and cubic equations, surds and indices.

Maths B is Trigonometry. Angle measure and equations, double and compound angles, solving triangles, circle and 3D problems, inverse trig and identities.

A student who books both sits two different courses and repeats nothing. Each is timetabled twice across the four days so there is never a clash with another subject, and most Higher Level students take both. There is a separate Ordinary Level Maths group as well.

Frequently asked

The things parents ask.

Does my child have to come every day?

Yes — it runs as a four-day block, 28 to 31 December, and the value is in the full run. Students attend each day in the classes they have booked, with supervised study in any free slot.

What if they only want one or two subjects?

That is fine. You book exactly the subjects you want and they sit in supervised study during any slot they are not in class, so the day is still structured from start to finish.

How does the free subject work?

Once you have taken two subjects, the next one is free. It is already built into the prices, and applied automatically when you book.

Do they need to be a Revise student already?

No. The Christmas courses are open to any student in the country, member or not, at the same price.

What should they bring?

Their own books, copies and a charged calculator, plus lunch or money for it. Phones are handed up or put away during class and study.

What is the refund policy?

If a student withdraws we refund the unused portion, pro-rata, no questions asked. The same no-quibble policy Revise has always run.
