5th Year Christmas Course Content

5th year maths

The topics we will cover are

• Day 1: Basics of logs 
• Day 2: Basic line  
• Day 3: Perpendicular distance and angle between two line  
• Day 4: Concurrences and divisors 

Logs are one of the hardest topics in Algebra so you need to see it done as many times as possible. The line is a really important topics as not only is it a question on it’s own on paper 2 but it goes into the Circle, Differentiation, Integration and Sequences and Series.

Have a maths tables and a calculator handy and look forward to a great week.

Leaving Cert Christmas Content

English

• Day 1: Writing Better Descriptive and Personal Essays
• Day 2: ‘Power, Corruption and Spies’ the Themes of Love Corruption & Death in ‘Hamlet’
• Day 3: HOW the Story is Told – The Comparative Mode of Literary Genre
• Day 4: Ireland’s Nobel Poets – The Poetry of Seamus Heaney and W.B. Yeats

Irish

• Day 1: Detailed instructions on how to structure an essay or debate on Paper 1 with focus on a high standard of introduction and conclusion.  
• Day 2: Notes and tips on how to approach Question 6(b) of the reading comprehension with sample sentences, phrases and vocabulary required to achieve full marks in this section.  
• Day 3: Recap of some main grammar points, including use of indirect speech, and how to apply grammatical knowledge for maximum impact in the oral exam and on the composition paper.  
• Day 4: Sample questions and answers for the oral exam with tips for the poetry reading, conversation component and Sraith Pictiúr. Detailed notes given with H1 standard answers as well as practical advice for preparing for the oral exam.  

6th year maths lower

Leaving cert maths A

Algebra is the key core topic for higher level. It not only comes up as questions on it’s own but goes into nearly every other topic on the leaving cert.

We will cover

• Day 1: Factors, fractions, complete the square, quadratics. 
• Day 2: Inequalities and absolute value. 
• Day 3: Simultaneous equations, cubic  
• Day 4: Surds and Indices (Logs to be given as a bonus recording). 

Have a maths tables and a calculator. Be ready for material that will make a huge difference.

Leaving cert maths B

Trigonometry is kind of it for paper 2. It is so important and will make a huge difference to your end grade. It takes a lot of work. During the week we will cover

• Day 1: Angle measure, equations, double angles. 
• Day 2: Compound angles, solving triangles. 
• Day 3: Solving circle and 3D problems. 
• Day 4: Inverse trig, identities. 

There will be a lot of past Leaving cert question that I will guide you through. I will show you lots of tips and tricks and different ways to handle very difficult question and show you the must know material.
