What’s Happening This Week
Mock exam results are rolling in, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions about them. While we all want to see great results, mocks often don’t reflect your true potential — and that’s okay!
There are a few reasons for this:
- You might not have covered the full course yet, which can limit how many questions you could answer confidently.
- Time management can be a challenge in some subjects, especially English.
- Mock exams are sometimes marked more strictly than the actual exams in June.
It’s a well-known trend that mock results are usually lower than what students achieve in the summer exams. So, if your results aren’t what you hoped for, don’t panic. Check in with your friends to see if they noticed similar patterns — chances are, you’re not alone.
Above all, avoid making any quick decisions about dropping to Ordinary Level if you’re currently studying Higher Level. Take some time to think it over and speak with your teachers. They know your strengths and can offer valuable advice.
Must-Do’s
- Stay Calm About Disappointing Results. The mocks are a learning experience. With targeted revision, you’re likely to see a significant improvement in June.
- Keep Pushing if You Did Well. Scoring high in the mocks feels great, but don’t get complacent! Many students improve even further by summer, except those who ease off after the mocks. Stay focused to keep your progress on track.
- Finish Your Projects Early. The sooner you get them done, the more time you’ll have for revision. Take the advice on projects seriously and aim to complete them as soon as possible.
Should-Do’s
- Think Positively. You’ve crossed the 50-school-days-left mark! While some might worry about time running out, see it as a sign that you’re nearly there.
- Focus on Progress. Remember how much you accomplished in the weeks leading up to the mocks. With the finish line in sight, you can achieve even more. Use this time wisely to build on what you’ve already learned.
In short: Don’t let your mock results define your confidence. Use them as a stepping stone, keep pushing forward, and stay positive — the real exams are your time to shine! ?
